She became Board Certified in that specialty in 1984 and practiced for 10 years in the Boston area. She joined the clinic in 1993 and became the Medical Director in 1998. She is the past president of the International Society of Travel Medicine ISTM) and is site director for the GeoSentinel project, an international cooperative project to monitor emerging diseases through research of travel related illnesses.
